I have stopped searching
for you in faces,
in memories,in the echoes
of yesterday’s sky.
You no longer live outside me.
You have settled into
the quiet curve of my breathing
the gentle pause before every
word chooses to exist.
You are not the story I tell
you are the language
that allows the story to speak.
There is no distance now,
no before and after,
no where and when.
Just presence.
Soft, steady, unbroken.
The world still shifts,
seasons still change,
but you remain
in the place where light
touches thought
before thought becomes form.
I used to think
I carried your memory.
But now I see
I carry your being.
In the stillness beneath my ribs,
in the warmth behind my voice,
in the quiet truth
that needs no witness.
You are not here.
You are within.
And that
is enough.
